the real estate group new york

after my summer at instyle, i never worked in publishing again. from there, i went to the real estate group new york (TREGNY), where i began my career in marketing. i found it to be very similar to working in publishing—i still got to write all day long and design page layouts for marketing collateral—but i also learned new things, such as email marketing, SEO/SEM, HTML/CSS, and powerpoint.

as a boutique real estate firm in new york city, TREGNY’s main marketing tactic was to appeal to the masses, not just the wealthy. many of the marketing materials i created aimed to educate prospective renters and buyers—about the city, its singularly unique real estate market, and its realities—and to give them options within their means.

i was 25 when i started working at TREGNY, and, as such, i was often called upon to share my experiences as a young person with very little money, striving to live in the big city. luckily, i was more than happy to write about the many roadblocks and pitfalls i encountered as i moved out of my sister’s house in westchester and into an apartment in clinton hill, brooklyn.

during my time at TREGNY, i created two things that previously hadn’t existed: a monthly e-newsletter and an SEM campaign called “ask the real estate group”. initially, i made up questions from prospective renters/buyers along with our responses, but then real people began writing to us. it became a permanent feature of the newsletter and website.
